Lakeside North Harbour renewable energy project gets green light from Portsmouth Council

Portsmouth Council are to install solar panels across Lakeside North Harbour in an £11million renewable energy project.

Councillors on the Planning Committee agreed to the installation this week, however the project will be delayed as Council failed to place the requisite notifications in the local press.

Agreement was reached for council to install almost 2,000 panels on the roof of the building and a further 11,000 on car park canopies. These panels will provide up to 5,900 kwp. The project would, claimed Council save 1000 tonnes of carbon emissions per annum.

The 130 acre Lakeside North Harbour Business Park is located on the Western Road gateway to the Solent Corridor, near J12 of the M27 and is home to more than 50 business residents, who collectively employ in excess of 5,000 people

The proposed work is the latest in a series of solar PV and battery projects being managed by Portsmouth City Council’s in-house energy services team.

Portsmouth Council previously claimed: "It has installed more solar across the council’s real estate portfolio than any other UK local authority. The Lakeside project, when complete, will be the largest single solar project ever undertaken by the council."
