Kent-based Gadds’ Brewery collaborates on special edition Earth Day beer
Gadds’ Brewery, operating out of Ramsgate, and Toast Ale are collaborating to create a special edition beer for Earth Day.
‘Earth Day Pale Ale’ will have notes of passion fruit, peach, grapefruit, and tropical fruits in a bid to showcase innovative action for the planet.
The concept of ecological action is one that corresponds closely with how Gadds’ brewery runs its operations. The Kent-based company uses a solar array to power its chillers and an air source heat pump for space heating at the brewery. Gadds’ has also trialled new technology for small-scale carbon capture.
Amongst the ingredients for the new ale were East Kent Golding hops, which are grown just down the road from Gadds’ Brewery. High gravity brewing and enzymes for cleaning were amongst the variety of environmentally friendly techniques employed in the brewing of ‘Earth Day Pale Ale’, the product will also be vegan friendly.
Head brewer and owner of Gadds’ Eddie Gadd said: “We’re not claiming this beer will save the planet, but we hope it opens discussions about how we can all help make a difference.
“Ours is the most ancient of industries, steeped in history and carried out using artisanal methods bestowed on us by previous generations. But that doesn’t mean we can’t change and adapt, whilst retaining the fundamental way we make beer and the consequent fabulous pint.”
