Home Instead Southampton: Kerry’s 'berry nice' hair raises funds for the elderly

Local caring lady, Kerry Butler (pictured) recently dyed her mane of long, thick hair a bright purple to fundraise for Home Instead Southampton.

Kerry works as the Head of Caregiver Experience at local home care company, Home Instead Southampton and so the charity is close to her heart. Having worked in care for 12 years, she is passionate about helping older people to enjoy themselves, and the national charity does just that – funding a number of groups and activities for older people across the UK, including in the local area.

The team decided to put some 'fun' back into fundraising by dying Kerry’s hair 'Home Instead Purple'. Kerry describes her own hair as 'untameable', and since deciding to dye it purple for charity, a host of people have got behind the cause.

Fellow team members Laura, Jan and Glenda also colour-coordinated their locks, and the group raised a grand total of £646 for the foundation. They would like to thank all clients, friends, and family who donated, as well as those in the community who supported the cause.

Kerry was pleased to be invited to an event hosted by the charity to congratulate her on her fundraising efforts.

Kerry commented:

"I find real comfort in spending time with my friends and family and this is one of the reasons I found such value in Home Instead Charities. Our elderly community experience social ageing in addition to physical vulnerabilities and as someone that needs to be with others, it is important to me that our clients, and other elderly individuals, have the opportunities to feel included, valued and have friendships and relationships with others and those are the sorts of opportunities that Home Instead Charities provide."

Home Instead Southampton offers personal care, companionship and live-in care to enable older people to retain their independence and stay in their own homes.
