Worcestershire law firm Hallmark Hulme are proudly sponsoring Worcester Warriors legend Alex Grove in his bid to swim the channel and raise money for Acorns Hospice.

Alex is set to swim The English Channel on 1st August 2020 with a little help from Hallmark Hulme and friends who are sponsoring his 21 mile watery endeavour.

The former Worcester Warriors centre and Scottish International has already completed several marathon swims, including the 18km Windermere One Way, but is in training to take on his next epic plunge. The English Channel is an endurance swim with a special allure for long distance swimmers, who travel from all over the world to take on the 21 mile stretch of water from England to France. It’s not without difficulty, as celebrity swimmers such as David Walliams have discovered. But Alex is up for it and asks that the people of Worcester get behind him in his bid to raise funds for the local Acorns Children’s Hospice.

Alex said: "During my time at Worcester Warriors we worked closely with Acorns and my visits there have stayed with me throughout my career and since retirement. I’ve now committed to taking on the challenge to swim the channel and am thrilled that Hallmark Hulme are sponsoring me. If you’re able, I would love for you to make a donation to this wonderful organisation - it would mean a huge amount to all involved.”

With the help of Hallmark Hulme and friends, Alex is hoping to raise £15,000 for Acorns Hospice.

Hallmark Hulme are keen to support local fundraising and have, for many years, supported other local charities such as St Richards Hospice and continue to support the Midlands Air Ambulance by being involved in events such as the Three Peaks Challenge and London to Paris cycle.

Rebecca Widdowson, Managing Partner at the local law firm, says: “We will be supporting Alex in his attempt and following his training as he approaches the big day. Our sponsorship will go towards covering his costs for the pilot boat etc, so all donations will go direct to Acorns.”

Alex continues: “Each of the previous marathon swims was unique and presented their own challenges, be it distance, water temperature, weather conditions etc, and I found I learned a great deal from each of them. The channel swim will pull together all of my sporting experience and passion to support Acorns. If you can help, even in a small way, I’d really appreciate it.”
