Darren Roe, Operations Director at Bromsgrove-based CCTV and access control specialists, Ecl-ips, is hoping training to complete Cancer Research UK’s Cycle 300 challenge throughout September. He can try and do it over one weekend, ride 10 miles every day or any way he wants to do it to complete the challenge.

Darren said, “This September, before the end of the month, I will complete 300 miles on my bike for Cancer Research UK, a charity that is close to my heart as cancer has affected close family and friends.

“I will be pedaling harder than ever because I want to raise money for life-saving research and help bring forward the day when all cancers are cured.”

Like many people, Darren, who has always enjoyed cycling, used the time when he was unable to travel far during the Coronavirus lockdown to get on his bike more regularly again. He has worked at Ecl-ips since 2006 when he joined as a project engineer, and now heads up the Operations Department.

Cancer Research UK funds around half of all cancer research in the UK. While the COVID-19 pandemic has slowed down the charity’s work it has not stopped and research projects that had to pause during the peak of the epidemic in the UK are now restarting. Currently it is working to alleviate the impact of COVID-19 by ensuring cancer patients can continue to get the diagnosis and treatment they need as quickly and safely as possible. The charity also provides information on cancer to the public and develops policy ideas to influence the government’s approach to cancer treatment.
