Volunteers from Gloucester based insurer Ecclesiastical rolled up their sleeves to raise £1,500 for Sue Ryder Leckhampton Hospice.

Sandra Cooper, Sarah Cox, Paul Humphris, Matt Gould, Andrew Henner and Laura Eccles from Ecclesiastical’s claims team donated their company personal grants to the worthy cause. The specialist insurer gives all members of staff a personal grant of £125 to give to charity and this is doubled if they volunteer for the same charity.

Sue Ryder provides palliative and neurological support from its specialist centres and in people’s homes. The £1,500 donation will go towards providing palliative care at Sue Ryder’s Leckhampton Court Hospice in Cheltenham, which provides 16 bed inpatient care and is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, for family and friends to visit whenever they want to.

Sue Ryder also provides hospice at home, where patients can spend their final days in the comfort of their own home. They also offer complementary therapy and spiritual care, and care then continues forward with bereavement and family support.

Ecclesiastical staff donated items to be sold in the shop, and the team of six volunteers spent a day supporting shop staff. The volunteers helped by quality checking clothing and PAT testing electrical items to ensure donations were suitable for sale in the shop, as well as pricing items and displaying them in store.

Andrew Henner, Specialist Claims Consultant at Ecclesiastical, said: “Ecclesiastical encourages all of its staff to donate and spend a day volunteering with good causes. We’re delighted to be able to support such a fantastic charity as Sue Ryder which does some fantastic work in our local community. The shop staff work incredibly hard, so we were delighted to be able to spend the day helping the team.”

Brian Murdoch, Sue Ryder “Sue Ryder provides all care free of charge, which is why volunteer days and Ecclesiastical’s £1,500 donation are so important to us. We’re very thankful to the Ecclesiastical volunteers who spent a day helping us run the shop. As well as the generous £1,500 donated on the day, we also achieved a fantastic £5,000 through the till in sales that week, thanks to their hard work on the day.”

Ecclesiastical staff gave more than £250,000 to good causes in 2017 through personal grants and matched donations for fundraising and payroll giving as part of the company’s ‘MyGiving’ scheme.

This year, Ecclesiastical launched its first Impact Report to celebrate some of the many good causes it’s helped.
