Cheltenham Town Community Trust are delighted to be working in partnership with CityFibre, the UK’s largest independent Full Fibre infrastructure platform, to deliver online and in person teaching to school children in Cheltenham.

CityFibre have made a kind donation to the Trust, to begin a new project in the town aimed at primary school children in years 5 and 6.

The project is focused on providing teaching to school children about the internet- from internet safety to how they can use online tools as part of their education, the history of the internet and IT skills moving forwards. CityFibre will also be supplying a goody-bag to all children who participate in the project, that will be run by Community Trust staff.

CityFibre is delivering a next generation broadband network across the UK that provides ultra-fast, reliable and futureproof broadband, to homes and businesses.

Their current full fibre network rollout programme is set to deliver to a third of the UK by 2025, seeing 285 cities, towns and villages receive a transformational digital upgrade. In Cheltenham, the #GigabitChelt project is a year into a three-year programme to provide gigabit-capable connectivity to every home and business in the town.

Neil Madle, CityFibre’s City Manager, commented ‘“We are delighted to work in partnership with Cheltenham Town Community Trust and local schools to highlight the importance of technology, especially the role it plays within digital inclusion and safety.

"This project will be continuing throughout the next academic year within Cheltenham schools and reflects our commitment to the local area. "We’re working hard to bring next generation broadband to every home and business in Cheltenham.”

As part of the launch between the Community Trust and CityFibre, Cheltenham Town first team player Sean Long has been named as the club ambassador for the project.

Community Trust manager Olly Roberts commented saying: "We are looking forward to working with CityFibre and are very grateful to them for their support.

"We can't wait to deliver to local school children right here in Cheltenham who are going to benefit from being a part of the project."

The Cheltenham Town Community Trust is the charitable arm of Cheltenham Town Football Club and is an organisation delivering a range of coaching, educational and mental health support programmes across Gloucestershire and the Cotswolds since its formation in October 2007.
