A Bristol brewery celebrating 15 years in the trade is going green and cutting its energy bills thanks to a Green Business Grant from the West of England Combined Authority.

The Metro Mayor Dan Norris  toasted craft specialists Moor Beer when he met director Maryann Hawke for a tour of its brewery and tap room. He learned more about the brewing process before attempting to pour the perfect pint.

The brewery installed solar panels thanks to £15,000 of funding from the Combined Authority. As well as cutting their energy usage by a fifth, it is estimated that this will save them over £5,000 annually on their energy bills.

Metro Mayor Dan Norris said: “Everyone has their favourite tipple. I’m sure the crisp, hazy products at Moor will be even more refreshing to Bristolians knowing they are being brewed in a greener building. I am delighted to celebrate this anniversary milestone with the team. Cheers! Here’s to the next 15! I am so pleased a cash injection from the Combined Authority which I lead is helping to cut carbon emissions. Our region is leading the way when it comes to going green”.

Moor Beer director Maryann Hawke said: “Alongside our low energy lights, canning on-site and local bike deliveries via 'Shift' couriers, the solar panels add a considerable boost to our commitment for a greener future. Support local and Drink Moor Beer!”

Green Business Grants are part of the Low Carbon Challenge Fund, which has received £1.9m from the West of England Combined Authority and £2.1m from the England European Regional Development Fund as part of the European Structural and Investment Funds Growth Programme 2014-2020.
