Southampton: Clarke Willmott partner elected chair of STEP UK Practice Committee
Kelly Greig, a partner in the private capital team of Southampton-based law firm Clarke Willmott LLP, is celebrating after being made chair of the STEP UK Practice Committee.
STEP’s primary purpose is to support members in their careers, providing professional development and technical information, and protecting their reputation by maintaining high professional standards. Members work with families in a variety of ways when preparing wills and probate and help them with real problems during difficult times.
The UK Practice Committee comprises STEP professionals from across the trust and estate sector to consider the impact of legislation or court decisions at the practitioner level. Members of the committee help develop practical guidance to assist STEP members; provide expert representation at government stakeholder meetings and contribute to STEP responses to government consultations.
Greig was previously deputy chair of the committee and holds the STEP diploma in trusts and estates (England & Wales) and advanced certificate in international succession and probate.
She said: "It’s fantastic to be given this role in such a long-standing and important organisation within the industry of long-term wealth planning."
This year Greig was also one of only 68 solicitors from across the country elected to sit on the Office of the Public Guardian’s national panel of professional deputies to work with people who lack the ability to make decisions about their finances.
Clarke Willmott has six offices nationally and more than 70 partners. It employs over 450 staff across its offices in Southampton, Birmingham, Bristol, London, Manchester and Taunton.
