Accountancy and business advisory firm BDO LLP has promoted 14 team members in its Southampton office, as part of continued investment in people and growth of the practice.

Newly-appointed director Deborah McSorley, working in the private client sector, is among nine women who have been promoted within the office.

In the past 23 years, McSorley has worked in the private client services team, advising wealthy entrepreneurs how to be tax efficient, dealing with legal practices (including partnerships and individuals in large practices) and working with professionals such as barristers and surgeons.

She commented: “My main aim in my new role is to grow the private client offering in Southampton, with the backing of an experienced team here and in London, and make us the 'go-to' practice for private clients in the south. We have a well-regarded corporate tax team and my colleagues have been growing the private client side over the past five years. I want to continue to contribute to future growth.

“The great thing about BDO is that we have all the capabilities of the Big Four accounting firms, and can add value with national and international capability working across most countries. Our international offering has increased significantly in the past few years and we can now offer wealthy individuals a truly integrated and consistent approach, no matter which country they are resident in. We have a very strong relationship-based approach.”

The full list of those promoted includes Rachel Hardy, Rachael Tomlinson, Alex Stansbury, Rachel Doran, Tim Hayter, Marc Page, Nigel Foottit, Nicola Walker, Gemma Wright, Deborah McSorley, Laura Hayward, Andy Hamman, Charlotte Stanley and Emma Lawrence.

Malcolm Thixton, lead partner at BDO LLP in Southampton, commented: “This is great news for the individuals and our office. We have a near 200-strong team here in Southampton, and it’s important we continue to invest in our people and their careers. These promotions are thoroughly deserved and would like to congratulate them all."
