Wholesale financial services expert Sam Tyfield is the latest partner recruited to UK law firm Shoosmiths’ corporate team with offices in Thames Valley and Solent.

Tyfield, who has a wealth of experience as a corporate lawyer at both large international firms and a trading company, is an expert in the rules and regulations governing the wholesale financial services sector.

His is a key appointment in the firm’s ambitious strategy for its corporate division, which is aiming to double revenue by 2022. His appointment will focus in particular on developing Shoosmiths’ increasingly international relationships with both brokers and trading firms.

Stephen Porter, head of the corporate division, said: “Sam’s appointment gives us the opportunity to recruit both an experienced partner and a well-known specialist in the wholesale financial services sector. His experience matches our existing retail-based financial services team and his international focus fits perfectly with our strategy for growth over the next couple of years.”

Tyfield said: “I’m delighted to join Shoosmiths to work with a network of colleagues nationally and to help to grow the corporate and finance practice in London which remains an important financial centre for overseas businesses transacting in the UK.”

Tyfield moves to Shoosmiths from US firm Vedder Price and previously gained considerable private equity and cross-border M&A experience with other American law firms in London. He was also the chief operating officer and general counsel at a proprietary trading firm, Automat.

Tyfield advises operational, compliance and general counsel level at principal trading firms, alternative investment fund managers and investment banks. He focuses on applicable financial services regulations and rules on day-to-day business and strategic planning, as well as advising on M&A and group structuring, employment, intellectual property, technology and commercial litigation.
