South: RSM partner elected deputy president of ICAEW

RSM tax partner Nick Parker, who works at the firm’s offices in Basingstoke and Southampton, has been elected deputy president of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) for 2016-17.

He has served as an elected council member since 1995. During those 21 years he has been a member of the ICAEW board; chaired its council for three years; chaired its members’ board while it established a members group in Scotland; and chaired its audit committee before he was elected an office holder. He is currently a member of the board and the audit committee, and he chairs the diversity advisory group.

As a chartered accountant, he trained with a small firm in Slough from where he moved to Touche Ross in London, specialising in tax. In the latter part of his career, he worked for Tenon both in Southampton and Edinburgh, practising as a tax partner. He is also involved with the Southern Society of Chartered Accountants (SOSCA) and regularly appears on local media commenting on tax and personal finance issues.

Commenting on his election, he said: “The ICAEW has a proud history as a professional body and I am committed to upholding its strong traditions and values while at the same time looking to continue the essential and ongoing programme of modernisation.”

In the normal course of events he will go on to serve as president for a year.
