Reading-based technology group Cohort Plc has announced that its subsidiary Systems Engineering & Assessment Limited has been awarded a 32 month contract valued at £17.5 million.

The contract is to provide an External Communications System (ECS) for a major defence programme with an as of yet unnamed customer.

When the ECS is set up it will provide enhanced real-time data exchange, critical information dissemination, and seamless co-ordination, in an effort to enhance overall mission effectiveness.

Cohort Plc is the parent company of six businesses based in the UK and various parts of Europe. Cohort companies provide a number of different services and products for customers in the defence markets.

The group is split into two segments: Communications and Intelligence, and Sensors and Effectors - SEA is part of the latter.

Andy Thomis, Cohort Chief Executive, said: "This contract is another significant win for SEA and will deliver essential communications capability to our customer's programme.

''It builds upon SEA's long-standing reputation and record of successful performance in this technology area.

''Together with other recent wins across the Group, this contract further underpins our order book and enhances the visibility of future revenues."
