Boyes Turner has bucked the trend continuing to grow despite the challenging economic climate. With a total of 20 new staff recruited since January 1, 2009 and further growth planned this year, its strategy of developing the Thames Valley law firm remains firmly on course.

The downturn has seen a notable rise in contentious work and as a result there has been significant investment in its litigation teams with further recruitment planned.

The firm has also taken the opportunity to further strengthen its Banking & Finance team with the appointment of partner John Barker from Osborne Clark in January.

The Employment group, which has seen five straight years of double digit growth and more than doubled in size over the past three years has this month recruited solicitor Shaista Ali from FBC Manby Bowdler LLP. It also offered permanent roles to three of the firm's trainees, Justin Terry, Emma Thomas and Darren Smith who have all qualified into the group.

Following the appointment of the firm’s first finance director last year, Duncan Brown from US law firm Dewey & Leboeuf has been hired as the first head of IT. Boyes Turner now has in place one of the UK legal industry’s strongest management teams. Brown will focus on further developing the firm's IT infrastructure, improving service delivery as well as expanding its portfolio of on-line services.

Chief executive Andrew Chalkley said: "This is an incredible achievement and such a positive statement to be making in these difficult times. We are taking this opportunity to bring on board top quality legal talent and support professionals. Our focus on developing a balanced business coupled with a willingness to invest for the long term has been key to our success in becoming one of the Thames Valley's premier law firms."

This year Boyes Turner has won or been shortlisted for awards including national law firm of the year, regional law firm of the year, best branded recruitment campaign and UK client focused law firm of the year.
