Until October 2014, you would have been right to believe that when someone dies it's a solicitor who deals with all the paperwork; solicitors had a monopoly over probate work.
In November, however, the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales was authorised by parliament to license accountants to deal with probate work, and Morgan Cameron in Witney is the first accountancy firm in Oxfordshire – as well as one of the first in the country – to be approved.
“This is a very exciting time for us,” said director Margaret Thornton. “As a firm of chartered accountants that already has a private client team which provides specialist tax services to individuals, probate was an obvious addition to the services we can offer our clients and our community.”
