International legal practice Osborne Clarke has advised Goldman Sachs Principal Strategic Investments on its £17 million Series A funding round in Oxford-based artificial intelligence (AI) business Diffblue.

The investment represents one of the largest funding rounds for an AI company in Europe to date.
Founded by University of Oxford computer science Professor Daniel Kroening and Dr. Peter Schrammel, Diffblue develops artificial intelligence for code. The company also automates many traditional coding tasks such as bug fixing, test writing, finding and fixing exploits, refactoring code, translating from one programming language to another, and creating original code to fit specifications.
Associate director Tom Try from Osborne Clarke's corporate team and senior associate Barney Sich from the commercial team advised on the transaction.
