Maidenhead: Michel Roux advised by Gardner Leader for new restaurant at Skindles
Renowned French master chef Michel Roux has chosen Berkshire solicitors Gardner Leader, based in Newbury, Thatcham and Maidenhead, as the family’s legal advisers for the soon-to-open, relaxed-style brasserie, Roux at Skindles.
Roux at Skindles is scheduled to open in November on the site of the former, iconic Skindles Hotel, near the village of Taplow, and just a few miles upriver from Roux’s three Michelin star restaurant in Bray, the Waterside Inn.
It will be part of Berkley Homes’ exclusive Taplow Riverside luxury housing development and will be the first time Michel Roux’s name has been associated with a residential developer.
Gardner Leader’s commercial property team, headed up by partner, Greg Humphreys, was appointed on recommendation and instructed by the Roux family to secure the freehold of the restaurant site - including land and building - which completed in July.
“We were helped through the acquisition of the brasserie site by Greg Humphreys and the team at Gardner Leader,” said Michel Roux. “We received invaluable support and advice throughout the entire process to purchase and develop the site, which was tricky from start to finish.”
Humphreys added, “Because of the size, complexity and historic nature of the famous Skindles Hotel site, acquiring the freehold on the land and building was a complex and technically demanding process. It involved co-ordinating input from different parties such as property advisors to conservation managers to ensure specifications were correct on all documents. We worked tirelessly to acquire the site on behalf of Mr Roux and we’re delighted to be part of such an exciting new development that’s just a few miles from our Maidenhead offices.”
Gardner Leader continues to work with the Roux family, providing support on other matters connected with the site.
