The Southampton and Winchester offices of law firm Trethowans have raised more than £7,500 over the past year for their chosen charity, Abby’s Heroes, through a variety of fundraising initiatives. Abby’s Heroes, based in Southampton, supports children and their families under the care of the Piam Brown children’s cancer ward and the Teenage & Young Adults’ cancer ward at Southampton General Hospital.

The charity, set up in memory of Abby Randall who sadly lost her battle with cancer in 2016, aims to provide financial support to families who have been affected by childhood cancer. This includes fun ‘memory-making grants’ - offering families a chance to do something special together.

To raise the money, people at Trethowans threw themselves wholeheartedly into a range of fundraising activities including monthly cake sales, dress down days, a Grand National sweepstake, and an office-wide lottery.

Employees were also treated to home-made lasagne, chilli jacket potatoes and bacon rolls, which were sold at lunch time to raise additional money, while one lucky employee took home a wheelbarrow full of wine raffled off just in time for summer.

Paul Longman, commercial property partner at the firm, has been commended for his extraordinary efforts after raising £2,150 alone, in a cycle challenge around Mont Ventoux.

Three more employees were also thanked for their hard work after raising over £500 running in the New Forest Half Marathon, while others helped in less conventional ways, such as selling bags of watercress at the Alresford Watercress Festival.

Chris Whiteley, managing partner at Trethowans, commented: “Abby’s Heroes is an incredibly special charity that has touched the lives of many children and families in our community.

"The work that they carry out is truly inspiring and we are pleased to have raised such a fantastic amount of money for this wonderful cause.

“Cancer does not discriminate, but we hope that by making this contribution we can help at least one family that has been affected by the disease.”

Trethowans has been offering legal services to businesses and individuals in the south for over 150 years with offices in Southampton, Salisbury, Poole, Bournemouth and Winchester.
