Competition for jobs is heating up this summer with the accounting industry witnessing an above-average hike in applications last month. That’s according to the latest statistics from CV-Library , the UK’s leading independent job site, headquartered at Fleet.

The data from CV-Library reveals that while the nation witnessed a 1.1% rise in job applications during this period, certain industries saw an even bigger jump in applications last month, which is particularly notable given that the summer is traditionally a quieter time for job hunting. In fact, applications for accounting jobs increased by an impressive 7.6%:

1. Education – 10.5%

2. IT – 9.4%

3. Accounting – 7.6%

4. Retail – 6.9%

5. Recruitment – 4%

6. Engineering – 3.3%

7. Manufacturing – 2.3%

8. Hospitality – 1.7%

9. Automotive – 1.4%

10. Social care – 1.3%

In addition, when looking at July 2017 data compared with June 2017, the findings reveal that applications within the accounting industry have also risen by 1.3% year-on-year.

Lee Biggins, founder and managing director of CV-Library , commented: “It’s extremely positive to see that candidate appetite has picked up over the last month, especially given that application rates were down in June as a result of General Election uncertainty. For organisations across the accounting sector, this presents an exciting pool of talent to choose from, while candidates should be prepared to pull out all the stops if they want to stand out from the competition.”

In addition, candidate appetite is being met by employer demand, with advertised job vacancies rising by 7.3% compared to the same period last year. Alongside this, salaries have risen ever so slightly, jumping by 0.7% year-on-year.

Biggins concluded: “Businesses are feeling more confident right now and with many having recently received their hiring budgets for the year ahead, now is the time to fight to offer the best possible packages in a bid to attract the top talent.”
