Two well established Berkshire law firms, Gardner Leader in Newbury & Thatcham, and Heath Buckeridge in Maidenhead, are to join forces as part of a long-term growth plan.

The merger, which will take effect on October 1, will see Gardner Leader expand into Maidenhead through the transfer of Heath Buckeridge's team of 10 staff.  The team will continue to work from the Maidenhead office, providing a range of services for businesses and individuals. The move will also help the Maidenhead team to build and develop its commercial legal services through the strength and support of Gardner Leader's specialist business division.

The announcement comes shortly after Gardner Leader's acquisition of the probate, conveyancing and litigation teams of Newbury-based law firm Charles Hoile in November last year. Over the past 12 months Gardner Leader, which has been providing legal support to individuals and businesses for 120 years, has seen continuous growth with a number of solicitors joining the firm and a 19% increase in turnover. Following the merger with Heath Buckeridge, Gardner Leader will have 13 partners and over 90 staff across Newbury, Thatcham and Maidenhead.

Richard Buckeridge, senior partner of Heath Buckeridge, who will become a partner in Gardner Leader, commented on the merger: "Heath Buckeridge has been successfully advising people and companies locally, nationally and internationally for nearly 30  years.  Joining Gardner Leader will provide an excellent platform to enable us to develop the range of services we offer in Maidenhead, particularly in the commercial sector, which will bring big benefits to our clients and their businesses."

Derek Rodgers, managing partner of Gardner Leader, added: "We look forward to Heath Buckeridge joining the firm. It's a move that will benefit both parties and their respective clients, particularly as clients of both firms will now have access to a wider range of services and expertise.

"It is a fantastic time to be investing in Maidenhead as it presents great opportunities for growth and development alongside the advent of Crossrail and the town centre regeneration plans."
