Yatton rugby club is a winner of developer's community champions scheme
A north Somerset rugby club was presented with a grant cheque for £2,000 as it became the latest recipient of the community champions scheme from developer Persimmon Homes Severn Valley.
Yatton RFC was established in 1968 and boasts over 300 members and has two senior and 10 junior teams. Its central role in the local community convinced Persimmon that it was a worthy winner.

The cheque was presented to club president Paul Griffin, treasurer Graham Goodhind, and flanker Finn Skuse at its clubhouse in the village by the developer’s sales director Carly Spear.
"It was great to meet Paul, Graham and Finn at the presentation and hear about their passion for the club, and their plans moving forward," she said.
"Hopefully, new and future residents in Yatton will become dedicated fans and players, and allow the club to go from strength to strength.”
Griffin added: "We are very grateful to Persimmon for their donation because, without the income the club generates, we won’t be able to provide everything that’s needed for players to actually play the sport they and our fans love so much.
"With so many members and players, it is an exciting time for Yatton RFC so to get a financial boost like we have from Persimmon can help go a long way in facilitating progress at the club."
Persimmon's community champions fund sees over £700,000 spent every year on good causes and valued organisations across the UK.
Recent local recipients include Weston-super-Mare Food Hub, Bristol Children’s Charity, and South West children's hospice.
Housebuilder persimmon is seeking to bring 280 homes to Yatton to meet local need. It is also building at nearby Haywood village in Weston-super-Mare.
