The cream of the Thames Valley business community came together last night (Thursday, November 21) for the annual Thames Valley Business Magazine Awards, celebrating the region’s success as an economic powerhouse of the UK.

One of the big winners was Thatcham engineering company Xtrac, a world leader in manufacture and design for motorsport, which took podium honours for the Best Use of Technology Award and also the Deloitte Dynamic Business Award.

Another big winner was Reading-based Westcoast, the IT supplies distributor, which came away with the award for Thames Valley Business of the Year.

A new name to welcome as a much-applauded winner was Fleet-based CV-Library, taking home the title of SME of the Year Award, while the team from Oxfordshire charity Style Acre, which supports adults with learning disabilities, won top honours as Charity of the Year.

Overall, some 50 finalists had been shortlisted for the awards, representing sectors from IT and manufacturing to recruitment and healthcare, and Awards chairman David Murray applauded this year’s entries as “absolutely fantastic”.

Award-winning broadcaster John Sergeant kept the audience entertained with tales of his career as a political journalist and “rather extraordinary” time as a Strictly Come Dancing contestant.

And, as well as enjoying the festivities, charitable giving was very much on everyone’s mind as the audience dug deep to raise a record-breaking £3,654.32 for the Brain Tumour Research charity.
