The Chartered Institute of Building in Reading is hosting a site visit to Woodley Library.

In 2021, libraries across Wokingham Borough reopened and welcomed back visitors in July after social distancing measures had been put in place.

From April 2021 to October 2021, Wokingham Borough Council commissioned design work to give the library a ‘facelift’.

In a bid to adopt more sustainable measures, works had been planned to reduce the library building’s reliance on fossil fuels in order to maximise the energy efficiency of the building.

A few of the main features of the thirty-year-old library include 200 solar panels mounted on the roof, two new air-source heat pumps and a plant enclosure.

The Council stated that they aspire to be Carbon Neutral on all their assets by the year 2030, and Woodley Library was identified as a suitable decarbonisation scheme.

Wokingham Borough Council recently stated in a tweet that the Woodley library would become the borough’s first carbon net zero library building.

The Woodley Library project was overseen by Ruane Construction Design and Consultancy (RCDC), who are described as experts in sustainable buildings.

The Site Visit event to Woodley Library will begin at 3:30 pm where a short introduction will be given, followed by the site visit.

The Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) in Reading noted in the event details that PPE is not required for the event.

Wokingham Borough Council and RCDC will be speaking at the event on 21 April.
