Winchester Science Centre and Planetarium has appointed Ben Ward as its new chief executive. He was previously head of operations, a role which provided him with a wealth of knowledge and experience in the everyday running of the educational charity. Prior to this, he had a varied career in banking and local authority. In his new role he will be driving forward developments including additions to the exhibits and upgrades to the planetarium.
He commented: “The Science Centre has been named as the lead organisation for the STEM Ambassador Hub Central South England. It welcomed more than 8,000 visitors during the 11-day October half-term period.”
Terry Marsh, chair of trustees for the centre, added: “The board has selected a very strong leader at a time when government is becoming aware of the importance of informal learning to excite the next generation about the possibilities of science and engineering.”
Winchester Science Centre and Planetarium welcomes more than 173,000 visitors and 37,000 school children per year and is committed to promoting knowledge and understanding of STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) subjects. It has the largest standalone planetarium in the UK.
