Reading – well it’s now firmly cemented itself as the UK’s tech capital and one of the most dynamic, productive and economically successful areas of the UK. Turning left out of Heathrow and away from London along the M4, it’s also become one of the go-to locations for foreign businesses setting up in Europe, and with the development of another runway at Heathrow and Crossrail, as well as the ongoing investment in transport and infrastructure, Reading will play a major role in the UK’s success, with or without Brexit.
Arriving in Blagrave Street in 2004, saw our expansion outside of the Capital and brought us closer to many of our most important clients at the heart of the Thames Valley. It also meant that we could tap into the talent pool of great lawyers that were working and living locally and wanted to work with some of the UK’s best known employment lawyers. It wasn’t long before demand from existing as well as new clients – many of these via recommendation – led us to look for larger offices, and we moved to Sovereign House in 2009 – which saw us grow our Thames Valley team to 20-plus lawyers and advisers including five partners.
Over these years our services developed from initially advising businesses and senior executives principally on employment law, to, along with our now three London offices, helping clients with all of their workplace law and advisory issues including business immigration, pensions, regulatory and privacy as well as health and safety. We now have a new service to add to these: a growing HR services and consultancy business led by the ex-HRD of one of our longstanding clients.
This specialist focus has made us different to other law firms. It has also, unlike many of these, placed us firmly in control of our own destiny. We have a clear strategy, including no plans to merge, which our clients – many of these have been with us since we arrived in Reading in 2004 – and importantly our team, understand.
We have now outgrown our second Reading office and recently moved into new custom-designed space in Apex Plaza. This gives us room to grow, and
we aim to increase the number of our lawyers and advisers as well as the ways we help clients over the coming years. Being part of the Thames Valley’s success story matters a great deal to us. We are here and we plan to stay.
