The Oxford Artisan Distillery, an English Whisky producer that uses sustainable practice to make spirits, has appointed Marcin Miller as their new chairman.

Marcin, who is one of the company’s original investors, has a lot of experience in the Whisky industry. He is the founder and owner of Number One Drinks, a Europe-wide distributor of Japanese whisky, and also the co-founder of two different distilleries: The Kyoto Distillery in Japan (which entered a strategic partnership with Pernod Ricard in 2020) and Oslo Håndverksdestilleri in Norway.

Marcin said: “I’m now focusing my time on purpose-led brands and projects so I’m thrilled to take up the Chairmanship of The Oxford Artisan Distillery.

‘’Working with heritage grains, the team at Oxford is leading the revolution in tackling sustainable farming whilst producing exquisite whiskies. With Distill Ventures as partners, we have ambitious and exciting growth plans in place.”

The Oxford Artisan Distillery is one of the leading practitioners of sustainable farming in the Whisky industry. The company produces spirit using biodiverse populations of heritage grain which is cultivated using a technique known as Restorative Continuous Grain Cropping (R-CGC).

Implementing R-GCG means that the distillery farmers don’t use any chemicals, the grain is instead grown with an understory of clover instead. The environmental benefits of R-CGC are: sequestered carbon, improved soil and river health, and the restoration of eco-system within arable fields.

CEO of The Oxford Artisan Distillery David Smith said: “I’m delighted Marcin Miller has agreed to become our Chairman as we enter the exciting next phase of our journey. His experience and counsel will be invaluable as we introduce our proposition to a growing audience in the UK and abroad.”
