Thames Valley: FSB Keep Trade Local challenge is a great success

Last week saw the Thames Valley jumping on board the FSB Keep Trade Local bandwagon and doing just that – ‘Keeping Trade Local’. Hundreds of people from all over the region spent the week trying to use only local businesses and registering their spend with the FSB to be in with a chance of winning a cash prize. Everything from a coffee on the way to work or carpets being fitted in the home is counted, as long as the spend has been with an independent local business.

Local MPs, councils, councillors and celebrities have all offered their support to the challenge week, and people still have until August 14 to register their spend and feedback. All that is needed is receipts from the purchases. The winner will be chosen at random on August 15.

Commenting on the week's success David Knowles Leak, FSB Thames Valley regional chair, said: “People across the Thames Valley realise the importance and benefits of using local businesses where they can. We are delighted that so many people chose to get behind the campaign and offer their support during our challenge week and hope that they will now continue to Keep Trade Local as and when possible.”

The FSB recognises that small businesses are the heart of the local community and generate wealth, employment and opportunity. But with people working longer hours and the growth of convenience, one-stop-shopping and the internet, these places are at risk. By challenging people to use independent businesses and shops for one week the FSB aims to encourage people use what is on their door step and make the most of the smaller businesses in the community.
