The healthy Asian-inspired food brand itsu is opening its latest shop in Reading in August as part of its continued national expansion drive focusing on key regional sites, taking the total number of shops to 58.

Founded in 1997 by Pret a Manger co-founder Julian Metcalfe, itsu opened its first site outside of London in Oxford in 2013, followed by Brighton in 2014. Now well established in London, Oxford, Richmond, Stansted Airport, Cambridge and Brighton, the plan is to grow its nationwide footprint by opening another 10 to 15 sites within the next 12 months.

Reading’s energy and diversity made it an obvious choice for itsu’s newest shop, which opens on August 28.

Centrally located close to the main railway station, in Queen Victoria Street, itsu Reading will launch its highly anticipated breakfast menu. itsu has won plaudits for its light, green and healthy food.

Said Takhamt, director of development at itsu, said: “We’re excited to be introducing our ‘eat beautiful’ concept to Reading. The demand from customers who travel from Reading to London has been a huge driver in opening up here. Our customers want amazing flavours from the Far East; high in nutrients yet refreshingly low in calories and saturated fat. We’re proud to offer protein packed, healthy and ethically sourced food to satisfy breakfast, lunch and dinner, all freshly prepared in each itsu every day.”
