Tenon, accountants and business advisers to entrepreneurs, has announced the acquisition of HWSEG (formerly Sandison Easson & Gordon), an established, leading specialist medical accountants and tax adviser.

Tenon Medical Services is one of the most prominent medical accountancy specialists in the UK and is a division of Tenon Group PLC. The acquisition will enhance the services’ current market positioning and increase the number of GP medical practice clients to 420 as well as growing significantly the many other medical professional clients such as consultants with private medical practices, dentists, vets and pharmacies.

The acquisition develops Tenon’s network of specialist medical support across the UK bringing the total number of specialist staff to 60 with SEG joining a strong existing team. Sandison Easson & Gordon primarily offers year end accountancy, benchmarking consultancy, personal taxation and annual superannuation certificate services from offices in Leeds and Rochdale.

North West and Yorkshire-based HWSEG was originally founded in 1984 as Sandison Easson & Gordon, by Nicholl Gordon, who retired at the end of last year. The firm is virtually unique in acting exclusively for medical sector clients. In December 2006, the Partnership was sold to Haines Watts to create a new subsidiary, HWSEG. The two offices in Leeds and Rochdale are managed by Richard Apps and Sean McLernon respectively.

Tenon’s head of Medical Services, Bob Senior, commented: “The acquisition of HWSEG will provide a stronger presence across the North of the Country, complementing our existing medical teams covering Scotland and the South of England. This acquisition will further enhance our expertise and our position as one of the leading medical accountancy specialists in the UK. We will implement further plans to grow this very important part of our business which is largely sheltered from current economic pressures.”

Sean McLernon, managing director of Sandison Eason & Gordon, commented: “This is a very exciting time for our business as we are joining forces with the third largest firm of specialist medical accountants in the UK, to further consolidate the position. Our staff will work closely with the existing medical specialists across the Group and look to maintain and improve our service to clients and also look to grow and enhance our business offering in these fast changing, challenging times.”

Richard Apps, director of the SEG Leeds office, said: “My experienced team and I are very pleased to be joining with Tenon Medical Services as this will improve the availability of medical specialist accountancy services in the North of England. Tenon Medical Services ambition to continue to provide a market leading service matches our own and we will strive to build on the quality advice we already give to general practitioners, consultants with private practices, dentists, vets and pharmacies."
