Commentary: A very focused and motivated individual, Jackson’s management style is hands-on, but over the years he has learned that employee delegation and empowerment is key, along with teamwork and trust.

Jackson admits he fell into the world of technology through a chance meeting with a computer-business owner.

He trained as an electronics engineer, gained practical experience and with colleagues in 1988 formed Second Generation Computer Systems (2GL) specialising in PC-based accounting solutions. He became 2GL sales director and subsequently MD.

2GL grew to one of the largest independent IT systems integrators on the South Coast. M&A activity broadened 2GL’s scope towards complete business solutions, and clients in Europe and America.

Expertise in the healthcare sector, and with mission-critical business requirements, was gained when the company won the managed-services contract for NHS Direct. The company name Amicus ITS was taken up in 2007.

In 2012, Amicus ITS and its sister company Harmoni were purchased by Care UK, a national healthcare provider, for just under £50 million.

Now, as MD, Jackson works in a consultative capacity as mentor and adviser to the Amicus ITS board. In 2013 he founded business advisory company InspireMentor, and he also has property development activities in Aberdeen.

Quote: “I always knew I had the drive and determination to develop and run my own company, and no doubt in my mind that technology, along with people and process, was critical to business success.“
