Specialist law firm Novum Law has celebrated the opening of its brand new, larger offices at the White Building, Cumberland Place in central Southampton.

The firm, which specialises in helping people affected by asbestos-related illnesses, has doubled the size of its Southampton business since its launch at the start of this year. There is now a seven-strong team with four specialist asbestos disease solicitors and three paralegal and secretarial support staff.

The latest appointment is newly-qualified solicitor Alison Sayers who joins from Southampton law firm Pitmans where she has been undertaking her legal training, completing a seat in personal injury earlier this year.

Sayers already has experience of dealing with industrial disease compensation claims having previously worked as a legal assistant at Lamport Bassitt in Southampton.

Novum Law partner Peter Hilditch said: “Very sadly, the numbers of people affected by asbestos disease continues to rise and this is not expected to peak for perhaps another five years or more. People from all walks of life and a wide range of occupations are suffering from the devastating effects of asbestos exposure. In fact, many of the newer cases we are seeing are from lower levels of exposure, with wives and even children who have been exposed from dust brought home on work overalls and clothing.

“All of this means there is a greater need than ever for specialist asbestos disease legal expertise and experience. Novum Law is committed to ensuring those affected by exposure to deadly asbestos dust get the right advice they need and their claim is dealt with professionally and with compassion and understanding.

“Our larger offices mean that we can continue to maintain our excellent levels of service and meticulous attention to our clients and we also have the capacity to grow our team further in the future.”

Novum Law works very closely with local asbestos support group HASAG, the charity which supports asbestos disease sufferers and their families. Due to their dedication and support, it has seen an increase in enquiries from people affected by asbestos-related illnesses not just in the Southampton area but throughout the South Coast and into London.

Novum Law's new offices are located at White Building, 1-4 Cumberland Place, Southampton SO15 2UN.
