Solicitors Blake Lapthorn is celebrating a big win in the retail sector after being appointed by supermarket chain Morrisons.
The firm, which has offices in Southampton, Oxford, Portsmouth and London, drew on its extensive experience in retail to make a successful bid to be appointed to the supermarket company’s legal panel.
Blake Lapthorn, which already counts retailers Waitrose, John Lewis and Southern Co-op among its clients, will provide licensing and regulatory services for Morrisons.
Solicitors from Blake Lapthorn’s licensing and regulatory team will help handle the licensing arrangements for Morrisons as the supermarket firm continues its drive to increase the number of convenience stores it operates.
They will also be on hand to provide legal advice on issues of risk and compliance across all of Morrisons business.
The win for Blake Lapthorn comes after Morrisons announced it was reviewing its arrangements for the supply of legal services in order to find new ways of working and better value for money.
Blake Lapthorn’s successful pitch emphasised the firm’s experience in licensing and regulatory services in the retail sector. Solicitors from Blake Lapthorn had already worked with Morrisons on an ad-hoc basis.

Blake Lapthorn will share Morrisons’ regulatory work with DAC Beachcroft, Browne Jacobson and DWF, and licensing with Gosschalks.
