South: Companies gather for Southern Manufacturing 100

The Southern Manufacturing 100 celebrates the top private independent manufacturing companies in the region, listed by turnover. This annual listing is sponsored by law firm Shoosmiths, NatWest Bank, advisory firm MHA MacIntyre Hudson, global insurance broker JLT and technology solutions provider Taylor Made Computer Solutions

At last night’s dinner, hosted by The Business Magazine at Oakley Hall Hotel, near Basingstoke, representatives from leading manufacturing businesses in the South gathered together to network, exchange ideas, and listen to two guest speakers who embody the entrepreneurial outlook and attitude fostered by the Southern Manufacturing 100.

David Murray, founder of The Business Magazine, introduced the evening by citing the continued resurgence in UK manufacturing, the sector having just delivered one of its strongest quarterly performances for a number of years, despite numerous economic and political headwinds.

Murray then introduced the two speakers for the evening, both of whom represented innovative businesses which combined first-class manufacturing capabilities with leading-edge technology.

Before starters were served, Mark Evans, co-founder and CEO, Adaptix, explained how his company had begun to revolutionise the relatively staid world of traditional x-rays, by utilising space-heritage technology to construct flat panel, portable, 3D digital imaging equipment.

Then, following the main course, Mark Preston, team principal, TECHEETAH Formula E Racing Team, outlined the changes currently taking place in motor racing, set against the backdrop of a growing global need for clean energy and mass transportation solutions for mega-cities.
