It's been announced that the pub/bar chain Slug & Lettuce will be taking on the site left vacant by Yates' on Reading's Friar Street.

As with many Yates' across the country, parent company Stonegate has decided to close it and reopen the building as a more cocktail-focused and female-friendly Slug & Lettuce.

The renovation will be a tight turnaround, with the £750,000 project scheduled to be completed at the site of the town's old Post Office in just five weeks. Yates' closed down on April 18th and the new bar is due to welcome drinkers before June.

Visitors to the new Slug & Lettuce, due to be the second in the town, can expect plush velvet furniture, neon lighting, special 'selfie mirrors', botanical décor, two signature birdcage booths and even a dedicated cocktail masterclass station.

Natalie Cooke is the General Manager at the new Slug & Lettuce on Friar Street. She said this about the opening: “It’s so exciting to be opening a brand new Slug & Lettuce in Reading this May. Just in time for the sunny weather too."

“Everyone knows how much fun they can have in Slug & Lettuce, and we’re sure that our new venue’s stunning décor and fantastic cocktails won’t disappoint. We can’t wait to see what everyone thinks.”

Friar Street's newest bar will be opening its doors for its grand unveiling on May 30th.
