Windsar Care has purchased an empty office block in Slough with a view to transforming it into a 50-bed nursing home with the financial backing of a £2.25m package provided by The Royal Bank of Scotland’s healthcare team (“RBS”).

Windsar Care was originated by two long-standing friends operating in the healthcare sector that shared a vision of becoming a care home operator. Pradeep Anand is a respected local dentist and boasts previous experience in the running of a nursing home. Dr Kumar runs three medical practices in the Slough area and combined wanted to leverage their many years of healthcare experience to diversify into owning and running their own care home.

After sourcing suitable premises, they are now nearing an extensive renovation project of an existing office block on the Bath Road, Slough. The previously owned Ryder House has been empty for a number of years and will soon become a 50-bed nursing home operating over three floors.

Palliative care will be part of the service offering alongside general care for the elderly and will see the day to day operation and nursing staff run through BML Healthcare.

Kumar is a well known individual to the bank having previously received funding for two of his medical practices. Andrew Marsh from the healthcare team at RBS has been instrumental in the growth Kumar has achieved and did not hesitate to repeat his support with the duo’s latest care home project. Marsh structured suitable finance facilities - £1m for the purchase of the building and an additional £1.25m to allow for renovation and refurbishment costs. The overall project is underway and should be fully operational by early September.

Kumar said: “I felt with my healthcare experience and Pradeep’s history of running a nursing home it was the right time to fulfil our next phase of expansion – to develop, refurbish and jointly operate a care home. Having worked with Andrew at RBS for several years, I was confident he would interpret our latest venture as a viable business option and thankful that he did. The office block was becoming an eye soar for the local Slough residents and I am delighted we will be turning this into a nursing home that will create local jobs.”
