Secret no more: Scale Up with Gloucestershire’s Growth Hubs
One of the county’s best kept business secrets will be opening its doors to new members in the New Year. Until now, local firms have needed an exclusive invitation and a secret website link to access The Growth Hub’s select Scale Up programme – a series of monthly workshops designed to support leaders from the biggest and best businesses in Gloucestershire.
Small groups of senior leaders, who learn as much from each other as they do from high profile speakers like EY and Smith & Williamson, meet each month to tackle long term challenges, with immediate short-term actions. Guided by experts in the art of scaling up firms, these workshops are fast-paced and interactive, designed to inspire conversation and encourage leaders from a variety of sectors to share how they’ve tackled their own challenges, in a confidential environment.
As a national programme, the ambition of Scale Up is that “Britain becomes the most fertile ground for businesses. If the UK is to capitalise on its long history as a trading nation and the vibrant entrepreneurial spirit which has seen an explosion in vitality over the past five years, it now needs to focus determinedly on how it ‘leans in’ to support its growing firms to scale.”
Chris Gibbs, one of Gloucestershire Growth Hub’s Business Guides, who has overseen the Scale Up programme since its inception, comments:
“Scale Up businesses are some of the most important components in a growing economy. Their rapid growth is what breeds competition, innovation and job creation. Gloucestershire is fortunate to have a healthy pool of ambitious firms, for whom we’ve hosted 26 sessions, helping more than 200 businesses think bigger and better.”
Now at the end of this highly successful two-year pilot, the remit of Scale Up is being widened in Gloucestershire. From January, the books will be opened, and new firms invited to take part. We’ll be approaching the ambitious, the rapidly-growing and the forward-thinking; with new invitations, in 2020.
