In April, Blandy & Blandy LLP welcomed guests to a seminar focused on ‘The Anatomy of a Development Land Deal’, held at Reading Borough Council’s offices.

Alongside Karen Jones, a partner and head of the firm’s nationally-ranked planning and environmental law team, and Katja Wigham, a partner in its award-winning commercial property team, were guest speakers Andy Meader of Pegasus Group and Steven Smith of Haslams Chartered Surveyors.

Attendees included landowners, developers, land agents, surveyors, architects, planning consultants, financiers and representatives from local authorities.

All respondents said that they would recommend the event, with the seminar described as “excellent”, “extremely useful”, “very informative” and “enjoyable”.

Blandy & Blandy has extensive experience in advising on development land projects, ranging in value from under £1 million to a reported £100m, and provides an end-to-end service for both landowners and developers. It enjoys established relationships with other leading firms and professional advisers in the region.

Both teams will be holding a seminar in October, with further information available soon.

Blandy & Blandy LLP ranked among the top 25 planning law firms in the UK

Blandy & Blandy has been ranked among the top 25 firms for planning law in the UK in Planning magazine’s 2019 Planning Law Survey.

Blandy & Blandy is ranked 23rd in the country in the annual rankings, traditionally dominated by much larger London-based firms, the majority of which operate nationally or internationally. They are compiled based on peer-led interviews and research.

This places the firm on a par with the likes of Shoosmiths, Mischon de Reya and CMS Cameron McKenna.

Partner and team head Karen Jones also features in the individual list, ranked an impressive 13th among the top planning solicitors in the UK.

She said: “With one of the largest specialist planning and environmental law teams in the region, Blandy & Blandy prides itself on providing an unrivalled service in this area of law, working closely with our award-winning commercial property team and other colleagues.

We are delighted and very proud that our expertise and significant experience has again been recognised nationally, despite strong competition from often larger city and national firms.

We believe that our extensive knowledge of the region and our established relationships with other leading professional services firms, combined with a highly personal and responsive service, helps to set us apart.”

The team is highly ranked for both planning and environmental law in the UK’s two major legal directories, Chambers UK and The Legal 500, with the latter also ranking Karen Jones as a ‘leading individual’ in her field.

Fellow partner Simon Dimmick is featured alongside Jones, having received the ‘Outstanding Contribution’ award at the 2018 Thames Valley Property Awards, while associate solicitor Victoria Charlesson is also recommended.

The team welcomed solicitor Kayleigh Chapman in March 2019.
