Reading's Ale Trail is to go ahead despite the cancellation of its partner festival.

Ale trail fans and customers turned up throughout the day to pick up their booklets and collect their stickers before going to the next pub on this year’s list.

In spite of the cancellation of this year’s Reading Beer and Cider festival due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the people organising the Ale Trail decided to go ahead with the event.

Last month the full list of pubs was announced, however, the Ale Trailers had to wait until Saturday 5 March to collect the official guide.

The people participating will visit each of the bars and pubs, buy a pint of real ale or cider, and collect a sticker to mark their trip in the booklets.

The pubs for the trail have been hand-picked by a team from the Mid Berkshire and Reading branch of the independent voluntary consumer organisation, Campaign for Real Ale.

The routes for the trail extend out to Tilehurst, Shinfield, Burghfield and Knowl Hill.

The pubs are then chosen based on how accessible the location is and the selection of real ales and ciders that are available to the customers.

Details for this year’s trail can be found in a booklet which can be purchased for £2 from The Retreat, Nags Head and Alehouse pubs in Reading.
