Loss of intellectual property (IP) can be critical for a company, and even fatal for a small firm. For entrepreneurs and start-ups, the loss of IP can also be highly emotional since the IP is likely to have been uniquely created by the individuals at the heart of the business.
IP – the physical proof of business building blocks such a commercial ideas, inventions, brand names and designs – is a crucial and valuable commodity, which is why it is vitally important for all businesses to ensure adequate IP protection is in place, and why law firm Pitmans LLP is providing an advisory session on IP to support fledgling businesses.
The free session is being held at GROW @ Green Park (250 South Oak Way, Reading RG2 6UG) on November 18, 2014, from 1pm-3pm.
The legal effectiveness and differences of such IP protective components as trade marks, patents and copyright will be explained by Pitmans pair Ese Akpogheneta and Rob Jarrett.
Akpogheneta is Pitmans' head of trade marks and a qualified trade mark attorney, specialising in IP issues relating to protection, exploitation and enforcement of trade marks, designs and domain names in the UK, EU and worldwide. She has over 15 years' experience in the IP field, having worked in Asia, in particular China.
A solicitor at Pitmans, Jarrett specialises in IP, information technology and commercial law, with particular personal experience in drafting and negotiating commercial agreements (many with an IT focus), dealing with contentious IP infringement disputes, and assisting with data protection and privacy matters.
