Reading businessman urges us to work from .... someone else's home
A Reading-based businessman who couldn't find a local workspace to work from in his bid to avoid home distractions has launched a new property tech company aiming to put homeowners in touch with businesspeople wanting to rent space by the house.
Jarvo was established in June 2021 when Daniel Hillman set out one day to find a local workspace to avoid the distractions at home and focus on his next career move. Not owning a car, he didn’t want to walk very far and so instead considered approaching his neighbour to use one of their rooms to work in.
Jarvo is aiming to offer the first of its type in the world to offer workspaces for professional guests to book by the hour within beautiful private homes that are local to you.
The very new business is currently offering spaces in and around Reading, but Daniel is inviting more people to register their homes as potential workspaces.
Daniel said: “The moment I left the front door, that was it. I frantically began Googling for a similar offering and found nothing that was available other than potentially renting an Airbnb for the day which made no sense financially. I figured if I built it for myself as a consumer, I could solve a problem and others may share that same problem."
Despite Covid forcing everyone to work remotely, many companies saw productivity and the wellbeing of their employee’s rise dramatically. Employees were able to spend more time with their families and their schedules become more flexible as result.
Daniel added: "We believe there is a future beyond this pandemic whereby remote working will become paramount in all workplaces. The ability to work when and where you want is already beginning to take shape amongst large organisations such as Deloitte, HSBC, Nationwide, Salesforce and many others. Every other day, a large company announces either permanent hybrid, remote work and the ability to work ‘when and where’ their employees want.
The benefits of using Jarvo allow flexibility, no lease or commitments, affordability, the ability to change your workspace environment and avoid being stuck in traffic. "Most of all, part of our mission is that we will contribute to helping the planet by avoiding travelling in a car when your workspace can be local with only a short walk or cycle commute," added Daniel.
Jarvo's goal is to create a decentralised network of workspaces within private homes across the UK for everyone to enjoy. It says: "We do not have a signature style and welcome the conventional to the ultra quirky workspaces. One day you may feel inspired to look out over a lake in the forest and another work in an authors own library."
