Reading-based architect designs ALDI's first checkout free store

ALDI 'checkout-free' store, which was designed by a Reading architect, has opened in London.

The Harris Partnership was behind the design of the ‘just walk out’ store in Greenwich which has no cashiers and allows customers to shop via an app.

A network of cameras registers products as they are picked up and charges customers when the leave the store through the ALDI Shop&Go app.

The store had been under a rigorous testing regime with employees for the past few months before launching their public trial last week.

“We have been working towards this day for several months now so it will be great to see how our customers react to the new technology.
