Reading is the best city in the UK in which to find a job, according to a new survey by money.co.uk, with Bristol in third place.
The personal finance website analysed the number of vacancies advertised on jobs portal Indeed from the 30 most populated towns and cities in the UK.
Reading came out on top, with 3,945 for a population of 160,337 people – or 2,460 jobs per 100,000 people.
Following Manchester in second place was Bristol with 11,041 jobs for a population of 465,866 – 2,370 jobs per 100,000 people.
"Reading is one of the largest towns in the UK yet to be granted city status, but its proximity to London makes it a popular place for commuters to live," said the report's authors.
"Bristol’s economy is built on the creative media, electronics and aerospace industries, with its city-centre docklands area being regenerated and becoming a hub for businesses."
Reading also topped the ranks for job vacancies per sector in six of the ten industries looked at by the report: accountancy, construction, customer service, engineering, IT, and teaching.
Manchester was the top city for two industries, marketing and HR, having seen a big increase in people moving for work in these industries recently.
And when it came to average salaries, London is the highest-earning city for four out of ten industries: Accountancy, Construction, Customer Service and HR.

An early advocate of online news, he spent the first years of the 2000s telling his bosses that the internet posed both the biggest opportunity and greatest threat to the newspaper industry and the art of journalism. He was right on both counts.

Since 2006 he has enjoyed a career as a freelance journalist. He lives in rural Wiltshire with one wife, two children, and three cats.
