Pinewood Studios has named one of its new sound stages 'The Sir Sean Connery Stage' in honour of the much-loved late actor, who would have turned 92 today. One of five brand-new stages debuting on the Pinewood Studios property, it's an 18,000 square foot purpose-built sound stage.

James Bond was initially played by Sean Connery in Dr. No, a 1962 Pinewood Studios production. Connery featured in five additional James Bond movies after the huge success of Dr. No, including From Russia With Love, Goldfinger, Thunderball, You Only Live Twice and Diamonds Are Forever. All of which were made by EON Productions and filmed at Pinewood.

The relationship Connery had with Pinewood went beyond the James Bond movies too. Between 1957 and 1999, he frequently worked at the Buckinghamshire studio, where he shot movies such as Hell Drivers, Woman of Straw, The Russia House, First Knight and Entrapment - one of his final big screen appearances.

Pinewood Group chairman Paul Golding said this about the decision: “We are delighted to announce that one of our five new sound stages at Pinewood Studios will be named The Sean Connery Stage. The revered actor, and original James Bond, had a life-long connection with Pinewood Studios. It is fitting that the naming ceremony will take place in 2022, the 60th anniversary year of the James Bond films.”

Speaking on behalf of the entire Connery clan, sons Stephane and Jason Connery said: “Our family consider it a great honour to have a stage named after Sean. It is fitting considering the amount of time he spent at Pinewood and we know that he would have been very touched by this privilege.”
