A 13th century hotel set in 12 acres of grounds is now on the market with global real estate advisor Colliers International with a reduced asking price.

The 32-bedroom Manor Hotel at Weston-on-the-Green near Bicester in Oxfordshire is now being offered for £4.8 million freehold.

Colliers is acting on behalf of administrators at Moorfields Advisory, who are continuing to trade the hotel fully.

The Manor Hotel is Grade II listed and parts of it are believed to date back as far as the 11th century.

As well as the 32 letting rooms, the property offers extensive public areas and meeting/banqueting spaces and a range of features including the remains of a moat, a Minstrels’ Gallery and a cavernous Tudor fireplace.

The Manor Hotel has a Civil Ceremonies Licence, making it a venue for weddings and other special events, and there are development opportunities for additional accommodation.

Peter Brunt, a hotels director with Colliers International, said: “The Manor Hotel occupies an excellent location, being close to a number of key tourist and business centres.

“Silverstone Racetrack and Bicester retail village are within easy reach, Blenheim Palace is just seven miles away and just ten miles south is the historic city of Oxford. Taken together, the area attracts millions of visitors all year round.”

He added: “The sense of history and character is palpable, from offering a reputed hiding place for Prince Rupert during the final years of the English Civil War to its resident ghost, Mad Maude.”

The property was converted from a house to a hotel in 1940.

The Knot Garden can host events for up to 130 guests; the Baron’s Hall restaurant has 46 covers but can provide for 70 in banquet form or 100 for drinks receptions.

Brunt said: “There are few buildings from this period that trade as hotels, and this is a rare opportunity for new owners to take on this magnificent building and fulfil its full potential.”
