Oxfordshire-based manufacturer of 'above the neck' personal protective equipment (PPE), JSP, has secured a seven-figure finance facility from HSBC UK. The funding will support capital equipment investment to increase production capacity in its UK and Germany factories as well as supporting growth at other overseas operations in its main international markets in Europe, USA, UAE, Asia Pacific and China. The finance will also help fund future product innovation and development.

The company specialises in head, eye, face and respiratory protection and has seen a sharp increase in demand for PPE and respiratory protective equipment (RPE) since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic. In response, JSP has restructured its healthcare division to meet a growing demand from both new and existing UK and international customers.

The second-generation family business, which supplies disposable and reusable masks, powered air-purifying respirators and faceshields, has been instrumental in supplying products to more than 120 NHS trusts in England.

Mark Johnstone, CEO at JSP, said: “The facility from HSBC UK and the support from relationship director Andrew Sharman, enabled us to adapt quickly to meet the increased demand due to the Covid-19 pandemic and we are pleased to have been able to support our customers by supplying them with highest quality JSP products during this unprecedented period. The additional facility not only allows us to continue to invest in new technology, as well as increase our production capabilities, but also to support our business and meet growing customer demand.”

Cameron Rathwell, HSBC UK area director and head of corporate banking for Thames Valley added: “JSP acted swiftly and innovatively to support their customers as they faced the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic. We were pleased to be able to provide a facility to support the business in increasing its capability and capacity. We look forward to continuing to support the team as they look to further grow the business through innovative new product developments and across new international markets.”

JSP provides specialist PPE across a wide variety of sectors including construction, manufacturing and also healthcare. As well as its UK operations, the company exports to over 95 countries. JSP Safety GmbH was recently set up in Dusseldorf, Germany with 55,000 sq ft of PPE manufacturing and warehousing to support its EU 27 customers as well as the growing needs of healthcare during the pandemic.
