A full-service marketing agency, M4 Design Company, has been acquired by Big Group in a transaction managed by international M&A adviser BCMS, which has its head office in Kingsclere, Berkshire.

M4 Design Company is a specialist design and marketing support agency, offering a range of services, including graphic design, websites, SEO and social media. Based in Newbury the company predominantly works with international brands from diverse sectors, such as Samsung, Tefal and Veolia.

The acquirer, Big Group, is a London-based marketing agency offering creative, marketing and promotions, digital, events, and search and content marketing services. Recently recognised in The Drum’s top 10 'Digital Census for Client Satisfaction', Big Group undertakes campaigns for international brands, such as Mastercard and ABTA.

Colin Dobson, managing director of M4 Design Company, commented: “Based in Newbury and being part of the Big Group family was an important factor in positioning M4 for the future. Big Group and M4 share the same ethos when it comes to client service and company culture and we believe this will give us a clear advantage in today’s marketplace.”

Nick Scott, CEO of Big Group, commented: “M4 is an innovative agency, particularly in the use of 3D technologies in retail environments, which adds to our B2C and B2B service offering. We recognise that clients enjoy working with a local agency and having an office outside of London helps us to better serve many of our joint clients.”

BCMS deal leader Nicholas Lankester commented: “We were very glad to facilitate discussions with M4 and Big Group, not least because of the obvious fit and shared culture. Following a buoyant 2014 for M&A among marketing services, media and related technology companies, 2015 is set to gather further pace.”

BCMS acted as lead adviser to the vendors. As part of its advisory work, it approached 264 potential acquirers and received serious interest from 24 companies. The shareholders of M4 Design Company met with six organisations for advanced stage discussions, before moving forward with final negotiations.
