In a transaction managed by Newbury-based BCMS, ProScribe Pty has been acquired by innovative scientific communications and technology company Envision Pharma Group.

ProScribe Pty is a leading Asia-Pacific provider of medical writing services to pharmaceutical, biotechnology, device and academic organisations. Founded in 2000, ProScribe expanded over a 10-year period from its Noosa, Queensland headquarters, establishing a presence in Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Brisbane, Shanghai and Tokyo.

The acquirer, UK-headquartered Envision Pharma Group, is a scientific communications and technology company, focused on the life science industry. Operating internationally from sites in the USA and UK, the group is also an industry leader in medical publication planning, execution, consultancy and technology.

Brian Hepburn, CEO and founder of Envision Pharma Group, commented: “We fully appreciate the global nature of the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industry and the strategic importance of the Asia-Pacific region. The addition of ProScribe expands our presence and capability within the Asia-Pacific region and in concert with our existing offices, gives the Envision Pharma Group dedicated resources in three continents, enabling us to provide a truly global service that mirrors our clients’ needs in today’s environment.

“We are also particularly excited to be working with Professor Karen Woolley and Dr Mark Woolley, who will both continue to lead ProScribe’s dedicated team of medical writers.”

Acting on behalf of the vendors, the BCMS team received early-stage interest in the business from a number of organisations located in the USA, Europe and Asia, however Envision Pharma Group tabled the most synergistic proposal for the business.

Mark Sapsford, BCMS deal leader who managed the acquisition, commented: “This was a very interesting deal to work on given the cross-border elements of the transaction and the specialist nature of the sector. I am confident that with the support of Envision Pharma Group, ProScribe will go on to achieve even greater success in the years ahead.”

Karen and Mark Woolley noted: “We valued the expert guidance that Mark and his BCMS team provided – we always felt our business, our staff, and our aspirations were in safe hands.”

This is BCMS’ eighth successful completion involving clients from the pharmaceutical, health, medical and beauty services industries since 2011. Between FY11-12 and FY12-13, BCMS experienced an increase of 33% in the number of deals involving an overseas acquirer.
