New Grundon chairman plans to make Bristol a “key focus”

Family-owned waste management firm Grundon Waste Management has appointed Neil Grundon as its new chairman.
The son of former chairman, Norman Grundon, has said he will invest in and develop the firm’s technology and vehicles in Bristol, where it launched earlier this year.
Neil said: “We’ve recently launched in Bristol and I’m excited about the potential for our business here.
“It’s a city which takes recycling and environmental issues seriously and our growth here is a key priority in our business strategy going forward.”
Neil’s promotion means the £120 million turnover business has now been managed by the Grundon family for three generations, as he takes over the role from his father, who will now move into the role of President, having been chairman since 1993 – the year after Neil joined the firm.
In his thirty years with the business so far, Neil has promoted investment in alternative recycling and recovery technologies such as artificial intelligence and robot pickers, and led the launch of its £3 million aerosol recycling facility.
Since 2000, Neil has driven the firm to reduce its company-wide carbon emissions by 78 per cent, and he is now leading the company to use alternative fuels, including electric and diesel-hybrid waste collection vehicles.

He added: “I am delighted to take on the position of Chairman and would like to express my gratitude to my father for his trust and advice over the years.
“I share his same passion for retaining an enterprising spirit within the business and the drive to continuously improve and be at the forefront of innovation.
“With a clear strategy, capable leadership team and excellent people across our diverse workforce, I fully believe Grundon is well-positioned and perfectly equipped to capitalise on the numerous opportunities available.
“My aim is to grow the business and pass it to the next generation in a stronger place, just as my father and grandfather have to me.”
His father, Norman, said: “These are exciting times for the business and I am positive that through our continued reinvestment, we will see Grundon Waste Management continue to go from strength-to-strength with Neil at the helm.”
