MTC Training, the training arm of the Coventry- and Oxfordshire-based Manufacturing Technology Centre, has been announced as the runner up of the closely contested Engineering and Manufacturing Apprenticeship Provider of the Year category at FE Week and AELP's annual apprenticeship awards.

MTC Training representatives received the accolade at the prestigious AAC dinner and awards evening at the ICC in Birmingham.

The awards, now in their sixth year, received a record breaking 375 entries from national training providers, colleges, universities and employers. The 20 categories recognise the country's leading skills providers across a wide range of industries from agriculture to construction.

Reaching the finals is a significant achievement for MTC Training, demonstrating its commitment to delivering world-leading skills for the UK manufacturing industry, which has long been held back from reaching its full economic potential due to science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) skills shortages.

Experts at MTC Training work directly with employers to understand their needs and design the advanced manufacturing apprenticeship programme specifically to fulfil their skills requirements. Not only does the curriculum deliver high quality technical training, it also offers opportunities for learners to develop further skills through ambitious enrichment programmes to accelerate their personal and professional success.

David Grailey, managing director of MTC Training, said that becoming a finalist in the awards was a significant milestone in the training business's growth journey as it continued to tackle the skills gap.

He said, "I am absolutely delighted that we reached the finals of the AAC's Engineering and Manufacturing Apprenticeship Provider of the Year 2023. It's a great achievement for the MTC Training team, in just over seven years of operation, to be in contention for such prestigious awards, thanks to our dedicated workforce."

He added, "The success of the programme is a culmination of consistent hard work from every one of my colleagues, which ensures apprentices acquire a wealth of skills and gain unparalleled hands-on, industry experience, setting them on a rewarding career path in engineering. Their commitment to our learners' development means that we are continually sought after by employers who can trust us. I want to thank each and every one of them for their continued support and for making MTC Training a great place to work day in, day out."

To boost its positive impact on the UK manufacturing industry, MTC Training encourages inclusivity by inspiring all potential learners to explore engineering as a career option, and helps employers remove the barriers preventing them from taking on valuable apprentices.
