Mira Showers celebrates sponsorships with female Atlantic rowers and Cheltenham Town Football Club
Cheltenham-based shower manufacturer, Mira Showers, is highlighting the success of its 2023 sponsorships, including Cheltenham Town Football Club and Ace of Blades, the all-women crew currently taking on The World’s Toughest Row.
Mira have partnered with the female ocean rowing team, supporting the crew as they take part in the huge ocean bound challenge - a 3,000-mile unassisted row across the Atlantic Ocean in a 25ft craft, beginning in La Gomera, Canary Islands, and finishing in Antigua in the Caribbean next month. Their intense journey began on the 13th of December and will see the women row in excess of 1.5 million oar strokes, face waves up to 20ft high and burn in excess of 5,000 calories a day. Hoping to raise £60,000, the team are giving their all to raise money for four charities close to their hearts – Macmillan Cancer Support, Prostate Cymru, Outward Bound Trust and The Charlie Waller Trust, while simultaneously promoting women in sport.
Laura Langton, Team Captain at Ace of Blades, said: “We are delighted to have Mira Showers on board as a sponsor, their funding is supporting us to continue crossing the ocean safely while also raising as much money as possible for charities close to our hearts.”
As principal partner to Cheltenham Town Football club, Mira and Cheltenham Town joined forces to launch the club’s first Third Kit competition. The initiative, which saw Mira donate its front of shirt sponsorship to its 2023 charity partner, Child Poverty Action group was born out of a desire to raise awareness of child poverty and raise much needed funds for the charity. The winning design, created by six-year-old Ruby Barnes was worn by the men’s team for its Boxing Day fixture against Shrewsbury Town. The club also released its limited edition shirt for sale on the day, with £5 from the sale of each shirt being doubled by Mira and donated to Child Poverty Action Group.
Alison Garnham, Chief Executive of Child Poverty Action Group said: “The average class of 30 pupils now has nine children growing up in poverty in our country. For some of those children, poverty means growing up too soon. 15-year-old Amara told us: ‘I skip meals to share with my mum… I skip my meal to wait for her to come back and at least we can have the same amount of food…’
“Ending child poverty is urgent and possible. On behalf of Child Poverty Action Group, a huge thanks to Mira Showers and Cheltenham Town Football Club for raising awareness and vital funds for this work, including through the Third Kit activity.”
Culminating its work in the community over the festive period, the shower manufacturer also sponsored the football club’s Warm Hub for the second year running, an initiative designed for those unable to heat their homes during the cost-of-living challenges being faced – demonstrating its commitment to supporting the local area.
Emma Foster, Managing Director, at Mira Showers, added: “At Mira, we believe that we have a responsibility within our community, and where we can we support those also looking to make a positive difference.
It has been incredibly inspiring to follow the Ace of Blades crew and their journey across the Atlantic. We first learnt about the team and their plans last summer, and it became clear that supporting this remarkable group of women was important to us.
We’ve also seen great success through our relationship with Cheltenham Town Football Club. Our activity with the third kit competition and the warm hub sponsorship was a wonderful way to end the year. Knowing that the work that we’ve done will go towards helping others makes it very meaningful, and I continue to be very proud of our associates and partnerships, and how we have worked with other groups in the community to help and support others.”
